 PRIVATE SCHOOLS OVER COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

-Ojashwee Bashyal

Even though private schools/colleges are expensive most parents put their hard-earned money to admit their children to these schools. There might be more serious reasons behind them but a couple of reasons for taking this decision are:

The private institute provides quality education and a Proper management system. We all are aware of the political context of our country and government Schools are the major affected ones because of this, corruption plays a role in the management, the quality of education degrades, and no such extracurricular activities help children grow socially, and intellectually.

But now the table has turned, Kathmandu mayor Balen Shah has taken the initiative to improve the education system of community schools which has set an example for all 752 other local governments. From the public’s past experience, most of the exams and other educational programs are affected by political pressure but according to the recent meeting held if any teachers or such activities are found being held in the school premises, strict action will be taken against them. If such action gets controlled then, only community institutes can improve themselves in terms of education and management.

Not just that, he has implemented book-free Friday in every community school which is the best way to attract students to public school, his decision to provide scholarships to the students ranking a certain position in the exam conducted for 11 classes has given a tough competition to another city as well doing this Balen has set example amongst people. Parents choose private schools cause they are worried about their child’s future, if community schools provide proper management in terms of education and extracurricular activities then it takes no long time to change the mindset of people.

Private schools are thriving because of the high demand from parents for better education. High-standard people put their children in expensive schools as they can afford the fees but what about those parents (daily wagers) who cannot afford those huge amounts of money, what about those children? If government can provide proper education and management in community schools at least their future will be secured. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started the process of providing scholarships to students of institutional schools in the metropolis. The KMC itself has started the process for the scholarship as the institutional schools were doing it as required. These actions taken by KMC can make a significant impact on the education system of Nepal.
