The Gentleman Trend

The current burning question on social media is- “Why is everyone going in suits to the cinemas?”.

 A TikTok trend around the release of “Minions: The Rise of Gru” has amassed more than 61 million views to young people around the globe suiting up to attend the latest installment of the “despicable me” series. Wearing a suit and accessorizing with bananas while holding hands in a steeple pose, Gru’s signature pose has been seen affecting teenagers almost everywhere including Nepal, America, Canada, and Australia. 

While this TikTok trend was ladened with entertainment and fun, it was also one of the most persuasive and engrossing PR stunts for the movie’s distributor endorsed and promoted the trend on social media by replying to videos and encouraging young people to wear their suits to the theater. Few viewers even mentioned wanting to purchase a ticket with the main motive of participating in the TikTok challenge. Today, “Minions” has shattered the box office records and has taken in more than $200 million worldwide so far, according to an NBC Universal spokesperson. 

However, since multiple reports of people being disruptive instead of simply looking dapper, many cinema chains have banned moviegoers from arriving in formal wear after rowdy Gentle Minions disrupted screenings.
