The Pride Parade
While June is called a pride month. People all over the world celebrate it to flourish there identity. People celebrate pride month by attending pride parades, film festivals, doing related artworks…etc. Likewise Nepal also we have been practicing pride parade since 2019 recently on Saturday of 2nd June 2022 pride parade was physically observed at overblown lane of Maitighar, Kathmandu arranged by a queer youth group in Nepal. Pride the parade is practiced to promote the self–recognition, nobility, equality and ascended penetration of (LGBT) lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. Thousands of people were gathered in this cause everybody dressed beautifully, waving rainbow flags and displaying slogans and holding posters and chanting slogans to aware people of the burning issue.
Apparently, the group trooped close federal parliament LGBT in Nepal was not much prioritized former years. However, people are now much more aware and knowledgeable about the subject matter. Nepalese constitution has acknowledged LGBT as fundamental rights, also in 2007 homosexuality was legalized in Nepal along with the establishment of several new laws related to the matter which includes recognition of third gender, binary transgender recognition, non- binary recognition and many more. Despite the encouraging provisions and regulations Nepal has not still legalized marriage of same-sex, The LGBT community still faces problems in the mainstream society. People are still facing societal discrimination, lack of family and social support, negligence from religions, and society. Harassment, and assaults which has negative impacts in their mental health leading them to suicidal attempts, drug addiction, depression……etc. although Nepal has introduced various laws, provinces, it is still not helping people. Just introducing laws is not sufficient there should be strict and proper implementations of such regulations .nonetheless it is extremely wonderful to see the various organization, peoples put their impactful efforts to spread awareness to the People who are still not familiar with the subject LGBTQ. In my opinion, this parade was very influential and powerful.
