The “Strange” Incident.

-Aayushma Chhatkuli

On the 28th of Jyestha, 2079, Prem B.K. (Maila) was found pointlessly on the high-tension wires of Kakani, and was finally rescued on the same day by the Nepal Army Rescue team. It was reported that he (Maila) was mentally unwell. The situation shows the bitter truth about the problems faced by mentally unwell people. It also depicts the positive side of our efficient rescue team.

The incident immediately took its spot all over social media as the young man was found on the high-tension wires. There were many attempts to make the man get to a safer place which resulted in a total failure. Ultimately, the Nepal Army Rescue Team came into action to save the person. This shows the bright side of our rescue team being prompt and quick in their actions along with depicting sheer efficiency. Highly appreciated.

Showing the positive side, the incident also depicts the dark reality of the situation of mentally unwell people in our nation. The lack of responsibility shown from the family’s side in this plot is clearly disappointing. Also, the fact that no one from the authority’s side saw or tried to stop the man to reach that high and deep in the high-tension line is disappointing.

To avoid these kinds of situations in the future, there are small parts to be played by everyone in the society. First, everyone should be aware of their mental health and no one should think twice before talking about the same. The backbone of mentally disturbed people is their family members. It is the family’s responsibility to take care of mentally disturbed members and help them recover. The next responsibility is of the government, primarily focusing on the awareness regarding mental health and announcing schemes regarding the same. Once these three bodies of our society are following these, we will see a positive change in people’s mental health.
